Ed McGowin: Name Change

Hodge & Temporary Exhibition Gallery

In 1970, Ed McGowin legally changed his name 12 times and has continued to create unique works of art under these different guises for the past three and a half decades. McGowin devised “The Name Change Project,” to challenge the conventional notion of a solo artist’s work following a “ linear chain-link model with each creation leading logically to the next.” McGowin believes these different identities allow for a broader approach to his body of work, without tying it to past history or future expectations. The exhibition includes paintings, drawings, photographs, prints, sculptures, and installations.
