A Celebration of Everyday Life: Work by Maya Photographers from Chiapas, Mexico look
Ford Graphics Gallery

This exhibition presents a selection of photographs by the Mayan people of Chiapas, Mexico. Organized by Sister Carlota Duarte, an artist and member of the Society of the Sacred Heart, Sister Duarte founded the Chiapas Photography Project in 1992, providing the indigenous people with cameras and instruction in photography without imposing artistic standards on their efforts. The purpose of the project is to give the participants “the opportunity to represent themselves with their own artistic talent and to regard themselves and their cultural heritage with dignity and pride.”
