Print Study Room
The new Print Study Room is a storage and viewing area for the
over 3,000 works on paper in the permanent collection of the Flint
Institute of Arts, including prints, drawings, and photographs.
It is equipped with conservation safe storage units, viewing tables,
and lighting appropriate for this light-sensitive material. As
this new room provides for additional storage space for the FIA's
broad and deep collection, it can provide for with more effective
organization of this large collection.
The Print Library is designed to serve both as a storage area for
works on paper, and as an intimate space for viewing works.
Given the FIA's extensive collection of this material, only a very
small percentage can be on view to the public at any given time.
Scholars and students will now have greater access to the collection,
as they may view works in the Works on Paper colection by advance
appointment.
The Print Study Room is located near the newly expanded Ford Gallery.
Approximately six changing exhibitions of works on paper are presented
in this gallery each year, primarily organized from the rich collection
of the Flint Institute of Arts.
