Picasso
Ford Graphics Gallery
This exhibition presents highlights from the 20th century master's body of graphic works and includes over 40 examples spanning his long career as an artist.
Picasso was not only a painter and sculptor, he was also an accomplished and prolific printmaker, creating over 2,400 prints, using a great variety of techniques including lithography, etching, drypoint, aquatint, linoleum block, and woodcut. Always searching for something new, his experimentations and inventions seemed boundless.
Picasso's subject matter is as diverse as his printing techniques; drawing inspiration from mythology, the Old Masters, bullfighting, and even the artist in the act of creating art. However, the women in his life were his most compelling subjects. During Picasso's lifetime he had two marriages, several long-term relationships, and numerous affairs. The images of women in Picasso's work, many of them seen in this collection, reflect not only his aesthetic development but his personal life as well.
