Linocut on paper

Dimensions: 15 1/8 × 26 3/4 in. (38.4 × 67.9 cm)

Gift of Jack B. Pierson in memory of Robert Purcell, 1979.192

In this linocut, the artist has created fourteen image frames on a single block, Mbatha illustrates a religious narrative where the central figure is bound and decapitated. The image is stylistically united by the repetition of parallel white lines, made by removing the linoleum surface with a narrow gouge.
