In a Flint Journal article from the 1930s, the writer noted that Ethel Robertson Gath “has not scorned the subjects which to many might seem humdrum.” Gath favored painting domestic scenes and still life subjects, reflecting her keen interest in commonplace events and settings. This painting is one of several images she created of Flint’s neighborhoods. Gath's carefully detailed scene demonstrates her delight in capturing the ordinary events of the day, as Flint residents are seen busily clearing away snow after a winter storm.
