Keith Morrison was born on May 20, 1942 in Jamaica and he remained in the West Indies until he finished high school. At seventeen, he came to the United States and studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where he received a B.F.A. in 1963 and an M.F.A. in 1965. Morrison has made his mark in the art world as a painter, printmaker, writer and educator. Morrison creates works of art that exhibit a profound influence of African and Caribbean cultures. He is especially known for his figural paintings that depict a variety of motifs from this home country of Jamaica and the African continent, as well as for his extensive use of metaphors and symbols to illuminate various themes.
