Matthew Wead's series of woodcut prints are based on real individuals that have been killed or injured by police officers, who were later exonerated. Nearly all of the officers were later exonerated of the crimes they were charged with. The series examines the perspective of the civilian during a confrontation with the police, which oftentimes escalates due to fear. Wead used himself as the model fro each of the prints, recalling the fear from his own encounter with the police. He posed for the camera in an attempt to capture the emotion of what the victim looked like at the moment right before the gun or Taser was fired. He later used these photographs to create this series of woodcut prints.
