From Cairo to the Cloud: The World of the Cairo Geniza
|Event Type||Jewish Film Festival|
|Date||Thursday, May 13, 2021|
This is the gripping story of the discovery and significance of the Cairo Geniza, a treasure trove illuminating over a thousand years of Jewish, Christian, and Muslim life in the heart of the Islamic world. This vast collection of manuscripts, hidden for centuries in the sacred storeroom of an ancient synagogue in Old Cairo, is the largest cache of Jewish historical documents ever found. At 7 p.m. on May 3, David Kraemer, one of the contributors to the film and a Jewish Theological Seminary librarian, will offer a virtual talkback discussion (presented by the Lenore Marwil Detroit Jewish Film Festival and the Jewish Theological Seminary).
