Ed Watkins will discuss the exhibition Drawing from Life, which includes works on paper that have been inspired by the distinctive and spiritual nature of his African American experience. The pandemic taught Watkins to practice staying still long enough to put what he calls “space between the notes” in his artwork. In terms of music, space between notes allows sounds to resonate, reverberate, and reach their full measure of expression. Without this space, noise would result. Watkins will share insight into his series of narrative drawings from the exhibition.
