In 2003, when renovations began on the FIA’s building, two large glass mosaics by Edmund Lewandowski were uncovered beneath sheetrock. The mosaics were commissioned by the museum in 1958 to complement the new, modern building and were located in the main Lobby and the entrance to the main exhibition hall. Sometime in the next four decades the murals were covered up, removing them from public view. Once re-discovered, the murals were conserved and moved to their current home in the south lobby corridor. This talk by Associate Curator Rachael Holstege will look at the murals, their symbolism, and their complicated journey to be seen by the public once again.
