A Lakota Elder summons a white writer and asks him to write a book about his perspective. After a blundering false start, the writer is all but kidnapped and sucked into a road trip through the Native American landscape. Stopping off at key landmarks, the Elder and his companion try to educate the writer in their ways, without falling prey to white men’s guilt-ridden clichés of glorifying an indigenous race.
