Art Conservation Projects
This year, funds from Giving Tuesday will go toward conservation projects in the Curatorial Department of the Flint Institute of Arts. As stewards of our community’s art, conservation is a vital part of our work. With your support, we can continue to preserve and maintain all of the works in our collection.
Howard Sutcliffe, the principal conservator and director of River Region Costume and Textile Conservation, worked on one of the Rinaldo and Armida tapestries in 2018. This photo shows Sutcliffe removing the shrunken modern lining, causing the tapestries to curl on the edges. The lining was replaced with special preshrunk cotton fabric that protects the tapestries from dust.
